Sedap Singapore Series: Street Food Finds

A Singapore Food Safari Series.

Manong Dirty Ice Cream

One shouldn't miss trying this whenever you're in Singapore. These makeshift stalls/ push wagons are found mostly along the busy Orchard road, especially during weekends.

There are numerous flavors to choose from, like red bean, durian, classic chocolate, mango, mixed berries and the like.

Each ice cream brick costs SGD1 if you opt to have it with wafer, and SGD1.20 if you want it with the rainbow colored- bread.

Xi De Li - quaint store that sells mostly fried finger food and fruits. This one's conveniently located near the Aljunied MRT station. I've tried the Goreng Pisang (SGD 0.70) is a popular snack, which basically is deep fried banana fritters - Malay style (it is the saba type of banana doused in cake batter, then deep fried to a golden crisp); and Fried Carrot Cake (SGD 0.70)

Fried food!!

Old Chang Kee - found all over the city. This one's in ION Orchard, Orchard Turn

Got to try the carrot K8 (SGD 0.80)

Maxwell Fuzhou Oyster Cake

The oyster cake sold here is highly rated by ieatishootipost, one of Singapore's top food bloggers. Click to read the article.

The oyster cake really tasted fresh, using only the freshest ingredients and cooked to the right doneness. The cake had several pieces of juicy oysters along with strips of green vegetables, perhaps coming from the cilantro family. The cake batter was also of the right texture, consistency and flavor.

Maxwell Fuzhou Oyster Cake
is located at Stall #22
in Maxwell Road Food Centre,(which is about a few steps from Chinatown)
and opens daily from 10am to 6pm.
